About us

Billie Jo Umans

One half of the founders, Billie Jo has 30 plus years experience in all aspects of accounting and is a QuickBooks trainer. Billie Jo’s experience and knowledge pertaining to accounting has been, and still is, appreciated in a wide variety of disciplines.  Over the years, she worked in a large variety of industries and Not-for-Profit organizations. She has been invited to practice her skills, and teach her skills to others, all over the United States and Western Europe.

As an independent accountant, she accepted invitations to function as the interim controller for the pharmaceutical industry, country clubs, hospitality industry, entertainment industry, educational institutions, manufacturing, and a variety of 501 (C3) organizations such as the National Police Athletic League, the Girl Scouts, and the Epileptic Foundation. In addition, for many of these organizations she created and implemented accounting procedures and organized, or re-organized, their administration, human resource activities and Sarbanes Oxley Financial Compliance requirements.  Billie Jo is a registered Tax Preparer with the Internal Revenue Service and The National registry of Tax Preparers.  Billie Jo is also active as the treasurer of the Phoenix foundation, provides scholarships to underprivileged students, and Keys Ahead that supports marine biology research by the Florida International University. She received her bachelor degree at the this University and she is a Notary Public with the State of Florida.

Rudy Umans

The other half of Aurora Business Consultants, Rudy Umans, began his career over 35 years ago with an internationally acclaimed aircraft manufacturer in Amsterdam, The Netherlands as a Contract Administrator for a variety of materials and equipment  such  as  Carbon  Fibers,  Plastics,  High-end Test and  Measurement  equipment,  and  Flight  Simulators Components. He moved to Miami, Florida where he started his own consulting company in 1992. The main clients of the young company were small businesses who very often involved in the export industry. For these companies he set up their inventory, organized their supply chain and purchasing activities, internal organization, and their national and international sales and marketing departments.

In 1992, the further development of the young business came to an abrupt halt when Hurricane Andrew blew the young company to Palm Beach. After some adjustments, Rudy was asked to design and implement a Bus Pass Consignment Sales Program for the local Surface Transportation Company. He also functioned as the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Officer for the same company. In this capacity, he reported directly to the Federal Civil Right Officer for the South West in Atlanta, GA.

In addition, he was also a member of the Intergovernmental Certification Consortium for disadvantaged and women or minority owned enterprises. In 1997, he joined the Office of Small Business Assistance of Palm Beach County. His knowledge about economically disadvantaged businesses and general small business practices was very much appreciated in providing technical assistance to small businesses and in completely revising the Palm Beach County M/WBE and Small Business Assistance Policies and Procedures Manual. These Policies and Procedures were later converted into a County Ordinance. For this office, he also conducted a comparative study of several Small Business Assistance Programs of the Federal Government and Palm Beach County.

Rudy assisted many small businesses in the fields of Strategic and Business Planning, SCM, ERP, Operations, Accounting, Business Assessments and Feasibility studies and was a business partner for Strategic Planning and Business Performance Management Software “Pharos” and ‘FIT”, which was co-developed with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO

Bruce E. Buchanan

Bruce E. Buchanan is an attorney at the Nashville Office of Siskind Susser, P.C.  He represents individuals and employers in all aspects of immigration law as well as employment/labor law.

Mr. Buchanan received his law degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1982 and his undergraduate degree in 1979 from Florida State University, where he graduated magna cum laude.  Mr. Buchanan served as senior trial specialist for the National Labor Relations Board for 20 years.  He has also served from 1991 to 2003 as Adjunct Professor at William H. Bowen UALR School of Law, where he taught courses in Labor Law, Employment Law, and Sports Law.  Mr. Buchanan has been in private practice since 2003.

Mr. Buchanan is chair of the Tennessee Bar Association's Immigration Law Section as well as the editor of TBA's Labor and Employment Law Section Newsletter and the TBA's Immigration Law Section Newsletter.  Mr. Buchanan is a guest blogger for E-Verify and I-9 News on topics of employer immigration compliance.  The blogs can be located at  He is a frequent speaker at seminars on a variety of topics, including Immigration Compliance, Immigration Law, the National Labor Relations Act, FMLA, and Fair Labor Standards Act.  He has authored numerous articles in magazines and on-line publications in the areas of immigration law, NLRB decisions, and pending federal legislation.  

Mr. Buchanan is a member of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and serves as the Advocacy Liaison of the Mid-South Chapter of AILA.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE).  Mr. Buchanan is an officer with the Middle Tennessee Seminole Club.

Mr. Buchanan is admitted to practice in Tennessee, Florida, and Arkansas, before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and D.C. Circuit and before the U.S. District Courts for the Middle District of Tennessee and the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas.
